Kawthar Younis is a filmmaker and producer based in Cairo. With a career spanning over 14 years, her work encompasses a range of mediums, including commercial and independent films.

Her short film, Sahbety (My Girlfriend) (2022), premiered at the Venice International Film Festival, making history as the first Egyptian short film to compete there. Kawthar has been recognized for her unique approach to storytelling, most notably with her film A Present from the Past (2015). The documentary film set a record for audience demand in the Egyptian art house scene, thanks to her unique storytelling approach.

The films she directed and produced have been screened in a lot of film festivals and have received numerous awards, both internationally and locally. Recently, she released her debut commercial feature film, starring Laila Eloui, Maqsoum (2024). As a producer, she recently had the premiere of Spring Came on Laughing (2024) at Cairo International Film Festival.

The Ramadan 2025 debut of Kawthar's directorial series "80 Bako" was greatly appreciated by the audience across the region.

It’s noteworthy that Kawthar is also a co-founder of Rawiyat-Sisters in Film, an organization dedicated to supporting female filmmakers.

Beyond the set, when Kawthar’s not filming, she’s probably experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen, flexing her Masterchef skills. Kawthar’s creativity doesn’t stop there – her hobbies include various forms of arts from playing the piano to sewing and everything DIY.
