His directorial debut, CAI - BER, won El Gouna Star for Best Arab Short Film at the El Gouna Film Festival in 2021. Abdelsalam began his career as an assistant director by working on numerous feature-length films and acclaimed TV series, including Eshtebak (Clash) (2016), Tayea’ (2018), and Qabeel (2019).

The filmmaker’s expertise covers a variety of genres that always seem to have an inventive and avant-garde flair. He is known for fusing cinematic style and sophistication with nuanced reality. Currently, Abdelsalam’s time is divided between his hometown Cairo, and London, working as a director for various projects, including fiction and documentary, and as a producer for others.

Beyond the set, when Ahmed’s not filming, he tries to work out but ends up committing to only two weeks out of his annual gym membership. However, he makes up for the missed exercise by walking and biking, all thanks to his car that breaks down all the time.
