May El Ghety
May Elghety is a multi-talented Egyptian actress born into a family deeply rooted in the entertainment industry.
Elghety’s acting career began at a young age as she starred in several titles as a child actress. In 2013, May showcased her exceptional talents in the lead role of the musical Badr El Bedour & the Magical Well at the National Theater of Cairo, garnering attention with her singing, dancing, and acting prowess. Her astonishing performance led to further opportunities, including a lead role in the controversial TV series El Kaserat, addressing the issue of child marriages in Upper Egypt.
May's career continued to flourish as she garnered recognition for her roles in notable projects such as El Gezira 2 (The Island 2) (2014). However, her role in the acclaimed film Eshtebak (Clash) (2016) propelled her onto the international stage. At the age of 17 only, May became the youngest Egyptian actress to have a film compete in the Un Certain Regard competition at the Cannes Film Festival in 2016.
May's global reach continues to expand as she’s the only North African actress in the Disney+ animated sci-fi anthology, Kizazi Moto (2023).
It’s also noteworthy that May is a believer in films with social causes. She starred in the short film Nada (2017) where she depicted a speech and hearing-impaired dancer. Additionally, her feature film Kamla (2022), which discusses FGM, premiered at the Red Sea International Film Festival.
In addition to her acting achievements, May is a passionate advocate for humanitarian and environmental causes. In 2018, she was appointed as the goodwill ambassador for Greenish & Very Nile.
Moreover, May's commitment to mental health advocacy is reflected in her academic pursuits. She holds a degree in psychology and has pursued further studies in London, where she worked as a therapist alongside her acting career.
Elghety’s latest work includes her first international, English-speaking role in the film, Due Dating which will be released in 2024. In addition to that, she took part in the Ramadan 2024 marathon with a lead role in the action series, Massar Egbari.
Her artistic endeavors extend beyond acting, as evidenced by her EP album Pink, which was released in 2021.
Beyond the set, when May’s not filming, she’ll probably be learning something new, adding to her impressive skill set. From ballet to boxing, May will surely surprise you with her many hidden talents. In the world of music, aside from singing, May can also strum the guitar and ukulele, as well as play the harmonica.
